For its tenth installment, Constellation’s NOVA series turns toward the moments that alter us.
A door closing.A stranger becoming essential.A path we almost took.A “no” that quietly became a “yes” somewhere down the road.
Crossings explores the intersections that define our lives crossing out, crossing paths, crossing over, and even the ache of missed connections. These are the thresholds where transformation happens. In celebration of ten years of New. Original. Vocal. Art., NOVA X will feature ten world premieres, including a large-scale commissioned work by returning NOVA composer Jadie Douglass Reeves. By inviting a past collaborator to shape this milestone year, Constellation honors the relationships that have grown alongside the series — and the artists whose creative paths continue to cross with ours. Through intimate miniatures and one expansive new work, NOVA X reflects on the ways our stories intersect: with each other, with our city, and with the music that brings us together. Because sometimes the most important moments in our lives are not the ones we planned, but the ones we happened upon.
Constellation acknowledges support from the Illinois Arts Council.
The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) is a statewide coalition of more than 130 community-based organizations, faith institutions, unions, service providers, and advocacy groups working together to defend and advance the rights of immigrants and refugees. ICIRR is dedicated to promoting the rights of immigrants and refugees to full and equal participation in the civic, cultural, social, and political life of our diverse society. We are honored to partner with Constellation and incredibly grateful to them for supporting immigrant and refugee communities in Illinois.
